2. What do you understand by family income? Define. (What do you mean by family income? Define.)

Ans. The income earned by the hard work of family members is called family income. Like family members work together in farming. The family gets income from the sale of the crops obtained. 

Similarly, in commercial business and industry, when all the members of the family work together and run it and produce. The family earns income from these items. There are three main components of family income – monetary income, real income and spiritual income etc.

Ans. The person who buys and consumes goods/services to satisfy his needs is called a consumer. various to the consumer

Ans. It is useful and beneficial to use salt to protect fruits. Because the salty substance of salt prevents insects and germs from growing in the fruits. Such fruits remain safe for a few days and it is especially useful to treat them with rock salt instead of normal salt.

(iii) Cotton clothes can withstand temperature fluctuations which are convenient for summer.

8. Why is food conservation important? (Why is food preservation necessary?) 

Ans. Preservation of food items is very important for their hygiene. Food in the form of fruits is very essential for human life. By eating clean food, human health remains good. Due to food preservation, food items do not rot and insects and germs do not remain in such food. Consuming such food does not cause diseases and thus maintains good health.

9. What precautions should be taken while washing silk clothes? (Which precautions are to be taken while washing silk clothes?) 

Ans. Following precautions should be taken for silk clothes-

(i) Light detergent powder should be used in washing silk clothes.

(ii) To wash silk clothes, one should not rub the clothes too much. 

(iii) If detergent has been used in silk clothes, it should be removed and washed with clean water.

(iv) The silk towel should be placed between two clean towels and gently squeezed to remove excess water and then spread out.

(v) After washing, silk clothes should be dried by hanging them on a hanger. 

10. Write three reasons for consumer exploitation. (Write three reasons of consumer exploitation.)

Ans. Following are the three reasons for consumer exploitation: 

(i) Limited information – In the absence of information about various aspects of the product i.e. price, quality, factors and conditions of use etc., consumers get ready to buy the wrong product, which leads to loss of their money.

(ii) Wrong information – In the absence of complete and correct information, consumers become victims of exploitation.

(iii) Shortage of supply Due to the development of industries there is shortage of supply. This increases accumulation and increases in value. The consumer buys the item of his need at an increased price. As a result the consumer is exploited.

11. What are the benefits of family budget? Explain (What is the advantage of family budget? Explain.)

Ans. Family budget has various merits or benefits. For example, family fund helps in meeting the needs of the family members and also provides regular savings opportunities for the family. Due to greater savings in the family, the capital in the family increases. As a result, the financial system and economic condition of the family remains good. This increases family happiness, peace and prosperity.

12. What is Himayan? Describe. (What is called freezing? Describe.)

Ans. Freezing is the process of phase transition of a substance by which a liquid changes into a solid state. For deamination the temperature of that substance has to be brought below its melting point.

13. What things are used to remove turmeric stains? (Which materials are used in removing the turmeric stains.)

Ans. To remove turmeric stains from clothes, white vinegar should be used. For this, the cloth is soaked in surf. One spoon vinegar should be added. After the cloth gets wet, the stain on the cloth will become lighter and soap should be used to clean it. Also, stains can be removed only by using some chemicals. To remove stains, detergent should be mixed in lukewarm water and applied on clothes, which removes stains easily.

14. What is a balanced budget? How is this bad for the family? (What is balanced budget? How is it defective for a family 2)

Ans. A balanced budget is a budget in which the amount of expenditure and income remains equal. That means it remains balanced. This type of budget can be of the family as well as the government. If the figures of total estimated income and total estimated expenditure of the government are equal in a financial year, then it is called a balanced budget of the government.

A balanced budget is bad for the family. That is, such a budget is considered harmful because having such a budget leads to a fixed total income in the family and there is no savings left. As a result the condition of the family is not very good. Due to lack of savings in the family, one has to face financial difficulties.

15. What is adulteration? Describe its adverse effects on health. (What is adulteration? Describe its bad effect on health.) 

Ans. Definition of adulteration Any similar substance in food

Changing the quality of food by adding or removing any element from it or adding any harmful element to it is called adulteration.

Bad effects of adulteration on health – Adulteration in food items has adverse effects on the health of the consumer. Human health deteriorates and the body becomes afflicted with various types of diseases. 

Adulteration is a dirty process which affects the health of the consumer. Sometimes it may even end the life of the consumer. Adulteration of food items is an unethical act. Due to adulteration, the nutritional value of food items reduces. Sometimes the human body suffers from infectious diseases. Consuming adulterated items has a major impact on the liver and lungs. The person may become a victim of anemia and mental and physical weakness. There is even a possibility of cancer.

 16. Describe the reasons for rotting of food. (Describe the causes of food spoilage.)

Ans. There can be various reasons for food intolerance. These reasons are as follows- 

(i) Food which is not used for a long time and days. There is a possibility of that food rotting.

(ii) Food which is not preserved starts rotting more.

(iii) Food items kept in high temperature areas for a long time start rotting. (iv) The food items which get moldy start rotting like vegetables, different types of fruits and different types of greens become stale. All these things start rotting.

(v) If the food items are kept in too cold an area, they start getting rotten and germs start to grow in them. Due to lack of proper temperature and excessive amount of dehumidification, the food items start rotting.

17. Discuss different responsibilities of the consumer.

Ans. The person who consumes the goods is called a consumer. The consumer has various responsibilities which are as follows-

(i) Responsibility of self-help: It is the responsibility of the consumer that as far as possible he should not depend on the seller for information and choice regarding the product, be self-aware and if any kind of problem occurs, it should be resolved properly.

(ii) Proof of transaction: It is the responsibility of the consumer to obtain the documents related to the purchase of goods and durable goods from the seller and keep it safe. 

(iii) Making appropriate claims: If the consumer consumes goods that are not of good quality, then he should complain about the loss to the seller and make a claim for compensation for the loss. Also, if necessary, the consumer should complain to the consumer forum and claim compensation for the damage. 

(iv) It is the responsibility of the consumer to use the goods properly and not to indulge in any kind of wrong conduct and the seller should not mislead. 

18. What is the importance of food hygiene in your kitchen? (What is the importance of food hygiene in your kitchen?)

Ans. Food hygiene has great importance for the kitchen which can be shown by the points given below-

(i) The kitchen should always be light and airy. There should be mesh on the doors and windows, as well as easy-to-clean shelves and cleanliness of the floor should be taken care of, so that food items can be kept clean.

(ii) The items cooked in the kitchen should be kept clean and there should not be any kind of dirt.

(iii) Hands should be washed thoroughly with soap before and after touching food so that the food remains clean.

(iv) Food items can be saved by using various equipment, detergents and fuel properly in the kitchen.

(v) Food items kept in the kitchen should be kept covered. So that it can be protected from insects, rats, cockroaches and crickets.

19. What is advertising? When will you consider the advertisement of any item as misleading and false? Explain with example. (What is advertisement? When will you consider the advertisement of commodities misleading and false? Explain with examples.)

Ans. Advertising is the process of promoting and advertising goods through various mediums in the market to increase the sales of goods. By reading the advertisements of goods, people buy the goods of their need and get satisfaction. On the other hand, the seller faces difficulty in selling his goods. 

As a result, the seller gets more economic profit. In short it can be said that providing information about new things to people is called advertising. Advertisement of a product can be considered false and misleading in the following circumstances:

(i) False advertising misleads people which is not fair.

(ii) Advertising a less authentic item as a more authentic item is harmful for the consumer and when the condition of the item is revealed, the sale of that item reduces due to which the seller sometimes has to bear loss. 

(iii) An advertisement of a product is considered false and misleading when it reveals fraud.

(iv) Advertisement of a product is considered misleading and wrong when that product is not of good quality and its price is also high, for example, if the quality of tea-coffee and pen is not as per the price, then the consumer is confused. It falls and sometimes loss may also occur.
