An invitation is a highly formal request to go or come somewhere somethings Invitations are often sent out for parties and various kinds of functions social, religious, national, educational, etc. They are usually printed in an ornamental style on gloss paper.

Invitations form an important part of human intercourse or social dealings between individuals or human groups. In a civilized society, an invitation takes the form of a request in which an individual is requested to come or go somewhere, or to do something.

Formal invitations are formal letters. They can be of two types. The first type consists of printed invitation cards through which one invites guests to be present on a particular occasion. Such invitations, naturally do not include the names of the addressee.

On the other hand, a V.I.P. is sometimes invited to preside over a social, cultural and educational function. Here the invitation assumes the shape of a formal letter wherein the name of the addressee prominently appears.

Informal invitations generally take the shape and form of personal letters. They are generally sent to our friends, relatives and dear ones with whom we have intimate, friendly and personal relations. The form of such invitations is relaxed, informal and flexible.
