1. Iron and steel industry is the basis of the industrial development of a country, why so?

Ans-(i) Iron-steel industry is a basic base for the industrial development of any country. Almost all the sectors of the Indian industry mainly depend on the iron and steel industry for their basic infrastructure. That’s why the iron and steel industry is the basis of the industrial development of any country.

2. Name two sectors of the cotton textile industry. How are they different?

Answer- The cotton textile industry in India can be divided into the following two sectors- 1. Organized Sector 2. Unorganized Sector. In the organized sector, cotton yarn and cotton fabrics are manufactured on a large scale in cotton textile mills with the help of modern machines, while in the unorganized or decentralized sector, cotton yarn and cotton fabrics are manufactured on a small scale by handlooms and power looms.

3. Why is the sugar industry a seasonal industry?

Answer – The most important raw material in the sugar industry is sugarcane. Sugarcane is produced in a certain season of the year. When sugarcane is stored for more than a day, the amount of sucrose in it decreases with time. Therefore, sugar mills have to do the work of sugar production soon.
